Laguna agate comes from the state of Chihuahua in the Estacion Ojo Laguna region of northern Mexico, which is the only locality of this agate in the world. It was only discovered in the 1940s in several places in the upper part of the mountain. The area covers a length of approximately 6,5 km. The age of these agates is thought to be about 38 million years and may sometimes contain sagenites or moss inclusions. They are well known for their vibrant red colour.
