Colombian crystal is one of the purest and finest forms of quartz in the world. Colombia is famous not only for its emeralds, but also for its high quality rock crystal, which is valued especially for its exceptional clarity, minimal inclusions and sharply formed natural crystals.
Colombian crystal is often found in the form of long, slender hexagonal crystals. Some pieces may contain small inclusions or phantoms (layers of growth within the crystal), but most specimens are almost perfectly transparent. Hardness on the Mohs scale is 7, which is equivalent to normal quartz.
Colombian crystal is mined mainly in the mountainous regions of Colombia, where it was formed over millions of years in deep geological layers. These crystals are often found in association with other minerals, such as calcite, pyrite or emerald, which is a testament to the unique geological environment of this region
