The crystal with unique petroleum inclusions comes from the Andranotokana massif in the Alaotra-Mangoro region in eastern Madagascar. This rare mineral contains capsules of fluids containing ancient petroleum. These inclusions have been trapped inside the crystal for millions of years.

The crystal is characterized by a clear or semi-transparent appearance, often with a golden or yellow tinge. What makes it truly special are the tiny bubbles of petroleum trapped inside the crystal. Rarely, a methane bubble is presentin some inclusions, which can move as the stone tilts. Some of the inclusions contain asphaltite and water. The size of inclusions range from microscopic to those that can barely be discerned with the naked eye.

Another remarkable feature is the reaction of the petroleum inclusions to long-wave UV light, which causes the petroleum to fluoresce bright yellow.
