This book about natural glasses sets off on a fascinating journey to the most remote corners of the earth and beyond. Volcanic and impact glass does not only exist on our planet, but, as we know from planetary travel, also in our galaxy. Best known sites of volcanic and impact glasses were recorded and the specimens were arranged alphabetically by country/planet for ease of use. From Antarctica to Vietnam, from Jupiter to Mars, over 313 specimens from 374 localities in 91 countries around the world and on 3 planets are described (based on occurrence, history, geology, etc.) and presented with full-page photos. In addition to well-known tektites such as moldavite and indochinite, many impact and volcanic glasses unknown outside the geology community are also presented.
Text contributions come from experts in this field: Christian Koeberl (Impact Researcher/former Director General of the Natural History Museum Vienna, Austria) and Aubrey Whymark (Tektite Specialist, Senior Wellsite Geologist and Geosteerer, Manila, Philippines).
The book GLASSY WONDERS (210 pages) is published in English, in a limited edition of 500 copies and is available worldwide.
