This iron meteorite belongs to the group of so-called Ataxites, i.e. meteorites with a high nickel content. It struck about 3,000 years BC in the desert of present-day Egypt, leaving behind the nearly 45-metre-wide Kamil Crater. Thousands of pieces of iron shards weighing around 1,600 kg have been found around this crater.
