The Hassi el Biod 002 meteorite is a rare pallasite that was found in 2021 in Algeria. The meteorite has a total mass of 10 kg and consists of five identical fragments. This meteorite is exceptional in its composition and does not correspond to any previously known group of pallasites.
Hassi el Biod 002 has a unique composition of olivine and oxygen isotopes, making it unique among known pallasites. Unlike most of these meteorites, it is not assigned to any classified group and its origin is still under investigation. Along with the Milton meteorite from Missouri, it is one of the rare pallasites that does not contain pyroxene. Yet no genetic link has been established between them, as they differ in both olivine composition and oxygen isotopes.
