Jambi Obsidian is a type of volcanic glass originating from Jambi Province in southern Sumatra, Indonesia. It forms through the extremely rapid cooling of volcanic lava, which prevents the crystallization of minerals. The result is a natural glass with a smooth and often glossy surface. Obsidian from this region is typically deep black, sometimes with a slight brownish or grayish tint, depending on the trace elements and the chemical composition of the original lava.

Jambi Province is known for its volcanic activity and rich geological history. Local obsidian was traditionally used to make tools and weapons due to its hardness and the sharp edges formed during flaking.

Interestingly, obsidian can also contain tiny gas bubbles or inclusions of other minerals, which further enhance its appearance. These internal structures can give it subtle color reflections or a semi-translucent look, depending on the angle of incoming light.
